The AMLI on Frankford? Here's a list to help you make your move-in decision: • You’ll be nickel-and-dimed and overcharged for minor infractions and everything from “administrative fees” to water/sewage/garbage. • There’s not nearly enough parking and covered-space paid parking is a joke. With mostly UTD students and the general hoi polloi not giving a crap, there’s no policy in place to enforce towing. In 2 yrs, I never once saw a tow-truck. At least 3 times a month, someone will be parked in your spot, with no one to call because it’s after work and management is promptly out of the office by 6pm. If you call to complain the next day and request towing privileges, they’ll ask you to call their after-hours maintenance person the next time it happens. Then once it happens the very next day, you’ll reach someone who barely speaks English. After you’re finally able to articulate your request, he’ll respond that he doesn’t even know the password for the tow truck company. “Senor I’m sorry, but they won’t tell me.” Great job AMLI. (To their credit, after constant pressure from residents, they finally implemented a revised towing policy in Spring of 2010. But I’m not sure of its effectiveness since I’ve just recently moved out). • Garbage pickup occurs during a brief window 2 days a week. It has to be downstairs curbside by 8am or they’ll fine you $50. They’ll dig through your crap to find out who you are and send you a bill. Maybe I’m spoiled, but for the price they charge, I want my garbage picked up door-side…also at a more reasonable time. • Crime. Check out http://dailycrimereport.com/ to see every incident. Mostly car break-ins but there have been assaults as well. • The entry gate is frequently broken , so management has to leave it open, sometimes for days at a time. • Shoddy construction and materials are apparent throughout the buildings. Expect floor squeaks with every step you take. And be prepared to hear exactly where your upstairs neighbors are at any given time. • Poor maintenance/workmanship. I once called to have the bathroom sink re-caulked around the perimeter since it had mostly disintegrated through normal cleaning. A week later it was peeling off again. • Gym equipment is outdated and contstantly in disrepair. Apart from these, it’s a great place to live!
