Oak Lawn Neighborhood
Located just to the north of beautiful downtown Dallas is the neighborhood of Oak Lawn. Oak Lawn has a diverse and affluent population that is friendly and is always very welcoming when it comes to new residents. Oak Lawn is also one of the major nightlife centers for the city of Dallas. If you’re thinking about moving to Dallas from out of town, or even out of state, Oak Lawn is a fantastic spot to call home.
The neighborhood known as Oak Lawn can be found just to the north of the central section of downtown. It is bordered by Highland and University Park to the north, the Central Expressway to the east and the Woodall Rogers Freeway to the south. The neighborhood stretches for about 12 square miles, but there is a lot of great homes, apartments, clubs, restaurants and great people in this small space.
Ask anyone who lives in Dallas knows about Oak Lawn and they are likely to tell you that it is one of the most affluent areas of the city. In recent years, a number of high-end condo and apartment high rises have improved the Oak Lawn sky line, and, in turn, raised the average price for apartments in the area, too. But there are still values out there in the Oak Lawn neighborhood, you might just have to look a little harder than you thought.
Oak Lawn is also known throughout the Dallas Metroplex as one of the top entertainment districts in the city. A number of excellent restaurants call Oak Lawn home, and there is enough selection to cater to any taste and budget. You’ll find glamorous 4-star restaurants sitting next to excellent sandwich shops and cheap eats all throughout Oak Lawn. But there is a lot more to Oak Lawn than just a good meal.
Cedar Springs Road is the main street through the Oak Lawn neighborhood and dotting this road are some of the best known clubs and bars in the whole city. If you’re looking for a place to call home that is right in the middle of it all and only steps from the hottest dance clubs in the city, than you need not look any further than Oak Lawn.
Oak Lawn has also evolved into the cities gay and lesbian entertainment center. There are a number of famous gay dance clubs, piano bars and burlesque clubs throughout Oak Lawn. As has been the case in so many other cities, it was the gay and lesbian population that began to turn the Oak Lawn area into a questionable neighborhood close to downtown into a fashionable and very desirable place to live.
Because the Oak Lawn area is only 12 square miles, there is only one high school (North Dallas High), one middle school ( T.J. Rusk Middle School) and one elementary school (Sam Houston Elementary) in the area. The schools are part of the Dallas Independent school district.
