McKinney, Texas

If you’re looking to get away from all of the noise, traffic and hassle of the big city, the outlying suburb of McKinney might be just want you’re looking for. The city of McKinney is located on the Northeastern tip of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and provides excellent access to both the city and to the beautiful Texas countryside in the other direction. McKinney has grown to be quite a popular spot for those looking for the best of both worlds, and with affordable prices on both homes and apartments, you can bet McKinney is only going to grow in popularity.

The city of McKinney measures out at just under 60 square miles, and has a current population of just over 100,000. That may sound like a lot to those that grew up in more rural areas, but for those that live closer to Dallas-Fort Worth, McKinney is more like a small town on the edge of the city. While McKinney has seen a rapid influx of singles and young adults in the past decade, the fastest growing part of the population is families looking for a more quiet alternative to raise their kids. Because of this, McKinney has an extensive network of parks, recreational areas and community centers all catering to the great American family. According to the US Census, the city of McKinney was actually the fastest growing city in the country for four consecutive years, and while growth has slowed a bit, it is still the fastest growing town in the Metroplex.

As can be expected in any area that has seen a rapid influx of families over the past few decades, the school district in McKinney has grown right along with the town, and is known throughout the state of Texas as being one of the premium places to send your children. There are four main high schools in the McKinney area, with each school ranking highly on state and national scorecards. As is the case with most schools in Texas, high school sports, and especially football, is extremely popular during the fall months. A recent article in the Dallas Morning News stated that McKinney is ranked #3 overall in the state in high school football, so if you are planning on attending a game, you’ll want to get there early!

McKinney is also leading the way in Texas for being an environmentally responsible city. Many “green” buildings have been built and there is a genuine grass roots movement within McKinney to live a responsible and environmentally friendly life.

Despite the rapid growth in McKinney, there are still many affordable homes and apartments in the area. Rent is lower in McKinney than you would find in downtown Dallas or Fort Worth, and the commute into the city is made easy by Highway 75 which goes from McKinney right into Dallas.

As you can see, McKinney is truly a wonderful place to call home. For those looking to get their piece of the Dallas Metroplex but don’t want to put up with big city hassle, McKinney provides the perfect balance.
