McKinney (ISD) Texas Independent School District
Dallas is known throughout the country as having the best school districts in the nation. The town of McKinney is a northwest suburb of Dallas and is also known for producing students who test in the highest percentile on standardized tests. The Mckinney ISD serves the town of McKinney, as well as the towns of Lowry Crossing, Fairview, Allen and New Hope.
The district is made up of three high schools, McKinney Boyd, McKinney North and McKinney High. There are currently four middle schools, with a fifth scheduled to open for the 2008 school year. There are 19 elementary schools, with two more scheduled to come online in 2008.
The student population in the McKinney ISD is predominantly white, with 64 percent of the almost 20,000 students identifying themselves as Caucasians. Hispanics make up 21 percent of the population, with 11 percent identifying themselves as African American.
For the 2006 school year, the various McKinney elementary schools scored very well on state standardized tests. Nine elementary schools in the area scored “exemplary,” while seven more were given an above average rating of “recognized” The McKinney middle schools scored a “recognized” rating on three out of the four schools. The McKinney high schools were led by McKinney North who also scored a “recognized” rating.
