Highland Park Neighborhood

Located just to the north of beautiful downtown Dallas is the neighborhood of Highland Park. Highland Park is truly a tiny spot in a highly populated area. The Highland Park neighborhood only measures out at 2.2 square miles, but in that small space, over 8,000 people call it home. What makes Highland Park such an exclusive address? Located just a few feet outside of Highland Park is Southern Methodist University, one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in the southern United States. SMU, as the locals call it, also has a legendary athletics program including a football program that won multiple national championships. If you’re looking for a school that combines award winning academics and championship caliber athletics, SMU is exactly where you need to be.

Shopping is one of Highland Park’s biggest attractions. The Highland Park Village shopping mall is a destination that people from all over the Dallas Metroplex drive to shop at. The facility boasts over 200,000 square feet of retail space and has been open to the public since 1931. It holds the distinguished record of being only the second ever shopping mall built and opened in the United States. The mall has undergone several major renovations since that time, so don’t go expecting an antique shopping experience. The upscale mall is state of the art and has 61 stores ranging from chains to unique shopping endeavors. In 2000, the mall was added to the official list of historic landmarks and places.

Highland Park is considered one of the wealthiest suburbs in the Dallas metro area, but there are also affordable apartments and homes that surround the Highland Park area. If this is a spot you want to call home, don’t be discouraged by some of the prices you see. There are bargains out there, just keep looking!
