Fair Park Neighborhood
In 1986, Fair Park was designated as a National Historic Landmark, due to its long association with the State Fair of Texas and as the site of the Texas Centennial Exposition, held in 1936. Most of the buildings in Fair Park were constructed for the 1936 Exposition and, as such, have significant architectural significance.
Fair Park has venues to suit any event. From museums to exhibit halls, parks, plazas, theaters, amphitheaters and more. This area is the long standing center of exhibits and meetings in Dallas and Fair Park strives to maintain that reputation. Their extraordinary buildings are all in the Art Deco mode popular in the 1930's and include buildings, sculptures and more.

Fair Park will be opening the Texas! Music Center soon, the music center will encourage learning and provide entertainment, will house a Hall of Fame for Texas musicians and explore many different genres of music. The African American Museum is the only major museum in the Southwest devoted to the heritage of African Americans. This museum allows visitors to explore the culture and historical advances of African Americans. The Dallas Aquarium holds 6,000 different aquatic animals, from fish to reptiles and more. The Dallas Historical Society is also headquartered in Fair Park. Other attractions in Fair Park include the Museum of the American Railroad, Museum of Nature and Science, Hall of state, which celebrates all things Texas, Texas Discovery Gardens, the Texas Vietnam Memorial and the Women's Museum.
If you're looking for food or entertainment in Fair Park, you won't have to look far; there are many different places that can help you out. The Old Mill Inn offers some fantastic 'down home' cooking, with soups, salads and other items in a historic atmosphere. The Dallas Opera is also headquartered in Fair Park and has been wowing audiences since 1957. The Smirnoff Music Center is an enormous amphitheater that hosts the best musical entertainment and shows in Dallas. The annual State Fair of Texas is also held in Fair Park. In the center of Fair Park, you'll find the Cotton Bowl, where the annual sporting event is held every year.
