Dallas Special Events

One of the most exciting parts of living in any major city is the knowledge that there is always something special happening right around the corner. The city of Dallas is no exception. There is a year round calendar of events that truly separate Dallas from the rest of the country. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular events.

Taste buds in Big D are ready and waiting every September with the Greek Food Festival. The 2007 version of the event took place at the tail end of the month and featured Greek music, food and culture. The event, hosted by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, has been going on for over 50 years and attracts visitors from all over the state. There is even a temporary Greek marketplace set up where you can buy authentic wares just like you were visiting the Greek isles yourself! The event runs during the last weekend in September.

Every April, film buffs from around the world descend on Dallas for the USA Film Festival (April 19 th-26 th). One of the most popular features of the event is the post film meet and greet where audience members can speak to a director immediately after viewing their submitted film. The festival is growing by leaps and bounds and is quickly becoming one of the top film festivals in the country.

Nothing says fall in Texas like the Texas State Fair. The 2006 version ran from September 28 th to October 21 st and is a fun filled day for people all over the Dallas area. The giant 277 acre site right in the middle of Dallas is packed full of rides, exhibitions, animals and, best of all, delicious fair food. This fair has been going on longer than anyone can remember and it might just be the single most anticipated event for children and adults in the whole state.

If you’re looking to add some culture to your October, Shakespeare in the Park is held in Dallas every fall. While many other towns and cities have adopted Shakespeare in the Park festivals, the one held in Dallas every year is the second oldest in the US. You can experience both traditionally done theatre as well as modern interpretations of classic Shakespearean theatre. The festival runs during most of the month of October and is held at the Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre.

Finally, if you’re a sports fan and you live in Dallas, nothing can quite match the excitement of the annual Sugar Bowl football game. Two of the nation’s top college football teams battle it out in the yearly classic. The Sugar Bowl has even determined the national champion in college football on more than one occasion. There is even discussion about moving the classic to the new 1 billion dollar stadium that is currently being built by the Dallas Cowboys. The game is always held on New Year’s Day.

As you can see, Dallas is a city that never stops moving, or celebrating. If you are thinking about relocating to Dallas, make sure you get a complete list of events and have a great time!
