Use a little caution, though, many of the pictures used to depict the various lofts and neighborhoods are generic and don't reflect what you'll actually find when you get there.
One of the best areas to find authentic industrial lofts is the West End Historic District. This district contains many old brick buildings, which were once businesses and industries. They have been revitalized and are currently selling to small businesses and as lofts for residents. This is a great area to find authentic lofts, many with their hardwood floors and metal sliding doors still intact. Another area that has some decent deals on lofts is Fair Park. This entertainment district is currently undergoing revitalization and new condominiums, townhomes and lofts are under construction. Once they open, they'll offer some great deals on newly constructed lofts. These will differ from authentic lofts and may be what are termed 'soft' lofts. That is, newly created rental space that is billed as a loft that may or may not have anything in common with what a loft historically is. Most newly constructed lofts fall into this category in one way or another, but you can still find some great ones that are incredible.
Lofts are incredibly popular, especially in the Arts District. This is the area of Dallas that has the highest concentration of visual and performing art and artists. This area has tons of lofts available, some authentic, some new construction, but in this area, they go fast. If you're looking for a loft in the Arts district, grab one fast, because it might not be available for long. These are incredibly popular in this area.
Lofts come in many different sizes and conditions, from fixer uppers to new construction that still smells of sheetrock mud. You'll have to decide for yourself what the most important aspects of a loft are to you, that way if you end up with a newly constructed loft, as opposed to an authentic renovated loft, you'll know what you want to look for as option in them.
