With a city the size of Dallas and a state the size of Texas, people expect a large number of attractions and things to do. Dallas does not disappoint, either. Dallas offers an amazing amount of things to do that provide residents and visitors an incredible variety of pastimes and entertainment.
Theme Parks
Dallas is home to the original Six Flags over Texas, a world famous theme park with roller coasters, water slides, merry go rounds and more. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor offers residents and visitors to Dallas the chance to cool off in the southern summer. With water slides, rivers, wave pools, children's pools and a number of sprinklers and run through fountains, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is a great way to beat the heat. You can relax in the rivers, ride the surging waves in the wave pool, or kick back and watch the kids play. The water slides are sure to get your heart racing as you blast down the slide and into the pools at the bottom, as well.
Parks and Recreation
Dallas is home to 406 parks that take up 21,000 acres in the city. The largest of these is Fair Park, at 260 acres, located in downtown Dallas. Fair Park was originally developed to host the Texas Centennial Exposition in 1936 and is also home to the largest collection of Art Deco buildings in the country. Dallas' parks are home to 17 separate lakes, covering 4,400 water filled acres; the city is also home to the largest zoo in Texas, covering 95 acres and founded in 1888.
Sports
If you love sports, then Dallas is the place for you. The city is home to the NFL Dallas Cowboys, who play their home games in the city. A new, state of the art stadium is being built in the area and will be home to the Cowboys and other sports teams on completion, in addition to providing Olympic venues.
Dallas has a number of other sports teams that call the city home. Arena football lives in the city in the form of the Dallas Desperados, the NBA's Dallas Mavericks play here and hockey has made an entrance with the Dallas Stars. FC Dallas, the city's Major League Soccer team plays in Pizza Hut Park, a new stadium that opened in 2005.
The city is also home to the Dallas Harlequins, a member of the USA Rugby Super League, teams in the Women's Professional Football League and more.
