Carrollton Texas Independent School District
One of the most unifying aspect about living in the Dallas Metroplex is the quality of the various school systems that serve the area. The Dallas Independent School District is considered one of the premium public education districts in the country. Not far behind the Dallas ISD is the Carrollton- Farmers Branch Independent School District. The Carrollton ISD is located in northwest Dallas country and includes the towns of Farmer’s Branch and Carrollton, and also includes parts of Irving, Dallas, Coppell and Addison. Currently, the Carrollton ISD is made up of 25 individual elementary schools, six jr. high schools, and four different high schools. The district also runs four different educational centers that supplement the existing school system.
The Carrollton ISD covers over 50 square miles of land, and unlike the physical boundaries of the various cities, the school district bleeds over into many neighboring towns, which is why kids from so many different towns attend schools in the Carrollton ISD. The school district lines were drawn in such a manner as to ensure a diverse classroom and to help with overcrowding in more populated areas.
The current enrollment numbers as of 2005 show a student population of over 26,000. Much like the other districts in the area, these numbers are up significantly over the last 20 years as Dallas has become one of the most popular destinations to live in. The student population reflects the same trends as the Dallas ISD: the largest segment of the student population attends elementary school (13,000+) and the second largest is high school (almost 7500).
